Purpose (why): Many clinicians and clients alike struggle to discuss sexual issues/concerns. This training is aimed at decreasing some of the fears around discussing sexual topics, as well as helping clinicians discern when it would be appropriate for referral to a sex therapist. Many clinicians find it helpful to have an idea of what sex therapy entails so that they feel comfortable referring their clients to someone who specializes in this area. By having some background knowledge of the tools used, clinicians may find that there is some overlap that can help with coordination of care and ease client anxiety around addressing this topic.
Method (how): This course will employ the use of lecture, handouts, and trainee participation. There will be plenty of time for questions and the trainees are happy to tailor this training as participants see helpful.
Audience (who): This training is most appropriate for licensed therapists, MFTs, and physicians seeking to learn more about the field of sex therapy.
