Name of Training: Addiction and the Four Pillars of RecoveryDate of Training: April 4, 2019
Time of Training: 1:00 PM to 4:15 PM
Place: Compass Point Counseling Fairfield
Facilitator: Brian Valasek, LPCC-S, LICDC
CEUs offered: 3
Objective (What): This training will help us practitioners gain a framework for deepening our understanding of and empathy for addicts. We will cover empathy, the dangers of stigma, practical definitions of abuse, dependence, addiction, sobriety and recovery. The training will show practical ways to identify and diagnose addiction and will educate about arguably the most helpful model of addiction, the bio-psycho-social-spiritual model. We will detail the four pillars of recovery: coping skills, lifestyle changes, sober supports and relapse prevention and how to use this framework with clients to have the most success in their recovery process.
Purpose (Why): Since such a high percentage of the people we help have addiction issues, I feel it is incumbent upon us to understand the fundamentals of addiction and recovery, to know how we are going to be with, understand, and empathize with addicted individuals. We all need a framework in order to keep from further stigmatizing the addicted and to provide encouragement and hope as they build their recovery, skills, resources, and self-esteem.
Method (How): Small and large group discussion & Lecture
Audience (Who): This training is directed primarily at counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists who desire a greater understanding of the fundamentals of addiction and recovery, who want to bring this understanding to their work with people.
